Two pets die in Peoria house fire

Two pets died in a house fire in Peoria Friday afternoon, according to a fire official.

The Peoria Fire- Medical and Glendale Fire departments responded to a reported fire inside of a Peoria residence in the 6800 block of Ironwood Drive.

On arrival units found moderate to heavy smoke  coming out from the interior of the residence, Peoria Battalion Chief Roger Russell stated in an email.

Flames and heat were quickly extinguished with no firefighter or resident injuries to report.

However, officials removed six cats from the property. Officials pronounced two of them dead at the scene.

Battalion Cheif Russell said no other information is known at this time as to the cause of the fire.
