First responders throughout the Northwest Valley will be recognized in a new ceremony hosted by Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary and Cremation Center, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.

Sun City firefighters demonstrate extrication of a car crash victim during a GAIN Night event in Youngtown.

Sunland annually hosts Memorial Day and Veterans Day events at its Sun City campus. Now Sunland officials are adding a recognition of first responders, according to Governor Joy, Sunland family service counselor.

“This will be our first annual event,” he said. “This will continue and supplement our Memorial Day and Veterans Day events.”

The ceremony is scheduled 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11. The event will include a wreath laying and a barbecue to feed first responders who attend.

“We want to thank them for their service to the communities,” Mr. Joy said.

The new event got its start from a suggestion from a Sunland staff member, Mr. Joy explained.

First responders from fire and police departments in Northwest Valley communities are invited to attend. The public is also welcome to attend and express their gratitude to the first responders, Mr. Joy said.

While the event is slated to start at 11 a.m., the time may be adjusted a bit to accommodate the schedules of those invited to lay the wreaths, Mr. Joy explained.
