Tickets are still available for the return engagement of Mark Baker & Friends at 7 p.m. on Monday March 6 in the Sundial Auditorium, 14801 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City.
Sponsored by the Sun City Ukulele Club, this ticketed concert (cost $10 per person) is open to the public and promises a stage full of musical talent and expertise.
Besides performing songs from Baker’s latest CD release, “And I Ride,” the show will include a compilation of Baker’s original composition, “Till The Highway Turns to Sea,” and covers of great tunes from Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Buffett and Neil Diamond, along with jazz and classic standards like, “It Had To Be You.”
Mark Baker & Friends last performed at Sundial in 2013 to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Baker also performed with the New Christy Minstrels as part of Sun City’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
Mr. Baker, who resides in Sun City with his wife, Peggy, founded the Sun City Ukulele Club in 2011 and it has now grown to over 100 members.
After serving as president for several years and knowing that the club was on solid ground, Mr. Baker took to the road, quite literally, bicycling more than 2,800 miles over 61 days from Sun City to St. Augustine, Florida.
It was during this trip in late summer/early fall of 2013 that he was inspired to write “Till The Highway Turns to Sea,” and his true passion for performing was reignited and his debut CD recording followed soon thereafter.
“The kind of music I perform is to bring people together, to make people happy, and for lack of a better phrase; ‘to spread the love,’” Mr. Baker states on his website (markbakermusicaz.com). “I love for my audiences to get involved by clapping, singing along, and just letting go in the joy of music.”
Tickets for this very special event can be purchased at the Fairway Recreation Center Music Room, 10601 W. Peoria Ave., on Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Tickets will also be sold in the Sundial Lobby Tuesday-Friday, Feb. 28-March 3 from 8 a.m.-noon and at the Sundial Box Office on the night of the performance.
